The Little Girl

I belive that sound makes a world of differnce. Especially in music videos because the whole video is based off of the music and lyrics. Being able to here the songs helps the audiance not only understand the video better but also get more conected and involed with the overall point. I belive that music has an effect on our attitudes and moods. What i mean by this is that for example there is happy, sad, somber, peacful, crazy, and intence music that is so powerful it causes whoever is listening to feel the same emothions the music portreys. So not only does it at flavor and intrest to the video but it also is a language of its own. Now when i watche dthe video without sound i could grasp the general picture that was trying to be painted. however i feel as if taking away the sound takes away the emotion and close attachment people feel ewhen they listen to a relatable song. Without sound you miss out on key details.

Application Is Key...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg&ob=av2e

You may have never heard Nirvana's "Smells Like Team Spirit" before, but you can use what we've discussed about ethos, pathos, and logos to analyze what is happening in this video, especially since we are broadening our concept of what constitutes as a "text."

In this post, I want you to watch the video without sound; then identify the speaker, audience, and message. Then, I want you to watch the video again, but this time, with the sound. Look for the same information. Do you the think the message changes?

Is It Always What It Appears to Be?

I like this image for many reasons, one of them being that there is lady in smoke (the actual title), but it is not obvious to the naked eye--it's aesthetically pleasing because it has some mystery.

I want you to find upload an image of a space (virtual or tangible) that carries the same aesthetic appeal balanced with its own mystery. Maybe the physical structure has a history unknown to its inhabitants. Maybe the virtual space has an architectural landscape that resembles a physical space that is easily forgotten...

Does Space Determine the People?

Think back to our first excursion. Based on what you observed, write about what you observed that you ma y have not noticed before. What can you tell about the people who use the space you observed? How does this new awareness cause you to view the space and the people who use this space?

Make sure you are incorporating class discussions and relevant readings along with your understanding of the intentional function of this space.

There Is No Place Like Home

I might be taking a risk in assuming we have all seen The Wizard of Oz, but even if you haven't seen this classic movie, I am sure you share similar sentiments about home--there is just no place like it.

If this is the case, I want you to describe a place/room from your home. It could be your literal home or it could be a favorite spot in your hometown or a place that feels like home. Then, I want you to compare that space to one here in Tallahassee. How are they similar? How are they different?

Yes, this is a journal, but it also a discussion among peers, so you must engage each other in thoughtful ways for full credit.
